Te Takiwa o Manukau is the group of tikanga Māori Anglican churches in the southern Auckland region of Manukau. We have local pariha as far north as Māngere Bridge, and as far south as Drury.
Our karakia and our people trace their whakapapa back to Rangihoua, to Oihi Bay, where the gospel was first preached in Aotearoa.
Our services are bilingual in both te reo and english, and the kauwhau (sermon) is in english. We welcome everyone from all cultures and backgrounds to attend our services.
Originally from Taipā, Pikaahu affiliates to the Ngāpuhi and Ngāti Whātua iwi. He moved with his family to Auckland and became part of the Māori Anglican Church, and was confirmed at age 15.
When he was consecrated bishop in 2002 at age 37, the Archbishop of Cantebury acknowledged Pikaahu as the youngest bishop in the worldwide Anglican Community.
He is the Chair of Te Rūnanga of Whakawhanaunga I Nga Hāhi o Aotearoa, Kaumātua of the Māori Women’s Welfare League, and an appointed Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to the Anglican Church and to Māori.
